Crowd and event management professionals graduate from Crowd Safety Management degree programme
A host of professionals from the crowd management and event industry have graduated with Foundation Degrees in Crowd Safety Management from Bucks New University. The latest cohort of the groundbreaking course graduated at a ceremony held in High Wycombe on Tuesday 6 September 2011.
The work-based foundation degree is the first degree course in the Europe to focus on crowd safety and is delivered through a blend of workshops and on-line learning over a two year period. The course is open to all those working within crowd and event management or associated professions such as the emergency services and local authority event licensing etc. More than 100 industry professionals from the UK as even as far afield as Australia, have now graduated from this ground breaking course since it was launched by Bucks New University in 2005.
Bucks New University is the home for the International Centre For Crowd Management And Security Studies and students on the Foundation Degree students benefit being taught by leading industry figures such as Mark Hamilton, Director of Events at G4S Security, Tony Ball, Managing Director of Show & Event Security, Ben Challis, General Council Glastonbury Festival, Keith Still, G4S Professor of Crowd Dynamics, Tony Wright, Event Planner TW Associates and Dr Mick Upton Founding Chairman Showsec International (Retd).
Mick Upton, Head of the Centre for Crowd Management and Security Studies, who co founded the foundation degree with Prof Chris Kemp in 2005, said “The fact that more than 100 industry professionals have graduated from the programme over the last few years and have gone on to shape the modern crowd management industry speaks volumes for the desire to improve standards of safety within the industry.”
Owen Grainger-Jones Course Leader of the Foundation Degree Crowd Safety Management said “We are delighted to see so many industry practitioners be successfully in their studies with us and that we are able to build upon the success of the Foundation Degree and announce the launch of a new BA Honours course in Crowd Safety Management starting this October”.
